Mr. Gee 6/7

Has Mr. Gee always been such a great dressing, handsome guy? Decide for yourself by this picture taken when I was about 6 or 7 years old.

Septermber Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The first month of School is now almost complete and I feel privileged to be working with such a fantastic group of students. I’m sure the students have been telling you about ‘TRIBES” or
the fish tank ecosystem. Perhaps they have been asking you to tell them jokes for the comedy routines we have been creating and performing in Language Arts. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for the kind messages I have received and to let you know about a few things we will be doing over the next few weeks in grade 6/7.

Breakfast Comedy Club
Next Thursday, October 2nd we will be having a class breakfast starting at 8:30 am in room 301. Students are invited to arrive at school a little earlier than normal to share a simple breakfast with the class. Students are free to bring bagels and / or cereal and their own milk and utensils. I will provide a toaster. After morning announcements, students will share the standup comedy routines they have been working on last week. Marks will be included in Language Arts and Dance / Drama programmes. Parents are most welcome; please let me know if you would like to attend.

Planners and Homework
Students should be showing you their planners to sign, you can also monitor homework by visiting the staff page on the school website. www.tvdsb.on.ca/georges
You will also find supporting materials for class revision and homework on my personal web page.
Our first Math Unit test will take place during the first week of October.

Shoes and Clothing for Physical Education
Soon we will be walking through slush and snow; please provide your child with a pair of clean shoes suitable for indoor wear These may be left at school

As the fall approaches we will be moving our lessons into the gym. Ideal dress for Physical Education lessons consists of well fitting training shoes, shorts or track pants, and a loose fitting t-shirt. Jewelry, especially bracelets, long earrings and necklaces, should be removed for safety.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at school should you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you throughout the coming school year.

Great Music

I'm listening to a fantastic website where you listen to music while you do your homework. It reminds me of Pandora which is no longer available in Canada. If you would like me to share the address have your parents write a short note in your planner. The first 3 students will get a extra special treat!

Welcome to Mr. Ennis

Mr. Ennis has now gone online with his own blog which you should take a moment to check. Also our latest spelling / Vocabulary words are on the homework page to review. We hope you're finding the school website a useful tool, please feel free to let me know what you think.

Friday feeling!

You'll maybe have noticed the new, cleaner look to the St. Georges website this week. You will be able to download newsletters, calendars and access staff web sites from it.

Homework includes Language and Science assignments, the details are outlined on my calendar should anyone not have their planner. I'll try to get a video up to help with the microscope slide instruction sheet, it insn't a very complicated procedure!

I want one ...

I want one of these, not so sure about the obsession with thinness though ...

This weekend

Grade 6's and 7's share Math H/W this week.
Firstly obtain a (school appropriate) receipt from which to work.
Secondly, multiply each of the unit prices by 1000, to get a new total price.
Present showing all working.

Extension activities could include a new total, multiply by 10 000 OR by 0.1
Due on Monday, enjoy the weekend.

Math matrix

Welcome back everyone, I hope you all had a great summer.
In math this term we're working on 'number sence' starting with 'Place Value'

I've also taught the class a nice way to tackle complex multiplication using a grid format. Here is a quick summary to help tackle this week's homework.
